Looking for the best local breweries near Monticello and the northwest suburbs of Minnesota?
One thing I love about living and working in the northwest suburbs is that there’s no shortage of great local spots to check out — especially if you enjoy breweries, patios, live music, and places that feel a little more local than the bigger metro chains.
Over the last few years, breweries throughout Monticello, Big Lake, Maple Grove, Rogers, St. Michael, Buffalo, and even up toward St. Cloud have really become gathering places for the community. Whether you’re meeting friends after work, checking out a food truck night, listening to live music, or just enjoying a Minnesota summer evening outside, there are a lot of great options throughout this area.
As a REALTOR® serving Monticello and the surrounding north and northwest suburbs, this is honestly one of my favorite things to share with people relocating to the area.
So if you’re looking for some breweries worth checking out, here are a few local favorites throughout the northwest suburbs.
Rustech Brewing Company in Monticello
Rustech Brewing Company
If you spend any time in Monticello, there’s a good chance someone will recommend Rustech.
It’s one of those places that feels very local in the best way possible. The atmosphere is casual, the beer selection rotates often, and they regularly host events, food trucks, and community gatherings throughout the year.
One thing I like about Rustech is that it reflects a lot of what people enjoy about Monticello in general — it has a relaxed feel, a strong sense of community, and it’s easy to become a regular there.
If you’re moving farther northwest from the Twin Cities and trying to get a feel for Monticello, this is definitely a place worth stopping.
Lupulin Brewing in Big Lake
Lupulin Brewing Company
Lupulin Brewing has become one of the more recognizable breweries in this part of Minnesota.
Located just east of Monticello in Big Lake, it’s known for:
- a large taproom,
- rotating beer selections,
- seasonal releases,
- and a really active event schedule.
The brewery has a fun atmosphere without feeling overly busy or overwhelming, and it’s become a popular weekend stop for people throughout the northwest suburbs.
Big Lake itself has also continued growing in popularity with buyers looking for more space while still staying connected to the metro.
Luce Line Brewing in Plymouth
Luce Line Brewing
If you’re spending time in the west metro, Luce Line Brewing is one of the more popular brewery spots in Plymouth.
The outdoor patio area is especially busy during warmer months, and they regularly bring in:
- food trucks,
- local events,
- live music,
- and seasonal beer releases.
One thing I’ve noticed with buyers moving to Plymouth and Maple Grove is that local gathering spots like this matter more than people initially think.
People want communities where there are places to actually spend time outside of work and home, and breweries like Luce Line have become part of that lifestyle.
OMNI Brewing in Maple Grove
OMNI Brewing Co.
Maple Grove has grown a lot over the years, but OMNI Brewing still manages to keep a very local feel.
The brewery is known for:
- a large variety of beer options,
- indoor and outdoor seating,
- community events,
- and a relaxed atmosphere.
Maple Grove continues attracting buyers from all over the Twin Cities because it offers a mix of newer homes, restaurants, shopping, trails, and local businesses all within a convenient west-metro location.
Hayes’ Public House in Buffalo
Hayes' Public House
Buffalo has a completely different feel compared to some of the busier metro suburbs, and Hayes’ Public House fits that perfectly.
This brewery has become a local staple because of:
- live music,
- community events,
- downtown Buffalo location,
- and its smaller-town atmosphere.
As more buyers look west and northwest for additional space and a slightly slower pace, Buffalo continues getting more attention.
Beaver Island Brewing Company in St. Cloud
Beaver Island Brewing Company
For anyone spending time farther north toward St. Cloud, Beaver Island Brewing is worth checking out.
It’s one of the more established breweries in central Minnesota and has become a popular local gathering spot year-round.
As the St. Cloud corridor continues growing, a lot of buyers are starting to compare communities between Monticello and St. Cloud more closely, especially if they work remotely or only commute part-time.
Why People Love Living in the Northwest Suburbs
One thing I hear all the time from buyers relocating to this area is that they want a little more balance.
They want:
- more space,
- access to trails and parks,
- local restaurants and breweries,
- community events,
- and neighborhoods that feel connected without being directly in the middle of the metro.
That’s a huge reason communities like Monticello, St. Michael, Rogers, Big Lake, Buffalo, Maple Grove, and Plymouth continue growing.
The lifestyle side of these communities really matters.
